Winter is here whether we like it or not, and so is the season for hygge.
If you haven't heard of hygge, let alone know how to pronounce it, stay tuned!
First, hygge is pronounced "hoo-geh" and simply put, it's a noun. This noun's definition is "that quality of being cozy and comfortable that encourages a feeling of well-being." Hygge is regularly regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture.
It's a feeling of simplicity. And being content with that simplicity.
It's a cozy cup of something warm, a hand-made blanket, a good book, and candlelight.
It's a complete mood.
And while hygge can be experienced all year long, I personally feel it's most pronounced in the winter.
For a large part of the world, winter is dark, cold, dreary, and often feels longer than the other seasons. Why not embrace the opportunity to snuggle up by a fireplace, play a board game, and enjoy a hearty stew?
Embracing a simple, hygge-inspired winter is one way we can enjoy our homes until we throw the windows open for spring.
